About Sandys Parish
Sandys Parish is Bermuda’s westernmost parish, home to Somerset Island, Boaz Island, Ireland Island, and Watford Island — all linked by bridges, buses, and ferries. Covering just 2.3 square miles, Sandys is small in size but rich in history, culture, and community spirit.
Named after Sir Edwin Sandys, an English investor in the Bermuda Company, the parish grew rapidly in the 19th century with the construction of the Royal Naval Dockyard. Workers from Britain and the Caribbean helped shape the vibrant, diverse community we are proud of today.
Sandys has no official motto, but what defines us is clear: resilience, family, and belonging. From our historic Dockyard to our thriving neighbourhoods, Sandys continues to be a hub for growth, opportunity, and connection.
About the Parish Council
The Sandys Parish Council was established in 1963, replacing the old Vestry system. While vestry members were once elected, today Council members are appointed annually by the Bermuda Government and must be residents of Sandys.
Guided by the Parish Council Act 1971, the Council works under the Ministry of Public Works to represent our community, care for local spaces, and support initiatives that make Sandys a better place for everyone.
Our Mission
Our mission is to facilitate community participation, represent the interests of residents and coordinate services that enhance the quality of Parish life.
